Secret Show: Neil Diamond Plays The Bitter End
WNEW.com's own Kristen was able to make her way into the suprise Neil Diamond show at New York's The Bitter End last night, braving the crowds who started turning out after news of the MySpace Secret Show broke late yesterday. One of only 150 people who got in, Kristen and the other lucky few got treated to a seven-song set of classics including Kentucky Woman, and of course, Sweet Caroline. In her own words, here's the ten-second review of the scene on Bleeker Street last night:
Neil Freaking Diamond! It was totally worth leaving work early for. If I would have got there 10 minutes earlier I would have seen him outside the bar - there was a camera crew there and he came outside to do a press conference. The line at first didn’t seem too bad but by 7pm people were going crazy that they couldn't get in. After over two hours we finally made it into the bar packed with about 150 people only. One of the owners of the bar came out to introduce Neil. He talked about how this was had never been done is the history of Neil. A man that has sold out the Garden numerious time was playing a 150 person show at The Bitter End!
He sang for about 40 minutes: a few new hits and some old classic favorites. There were no sequein tops just a brown leather jacket and jeans. He played his guitar the whole time and was backed by a 4 piece band including an upright base. The crowed was mixed in age but I would say that the average age was 30 which was nice to see!
He closed with what else….Sweet Caroline and then left the stage looking honored and humbled and of course the crowed chanted ONE MORE SONG; but there wasn't.
Here's some video from last night's show - this is last night's closing number Sweet Caroline:

"upright base"? You work in the music business? Give me a fucking break.
