A.M. Nuggets: Obama Loves Wilco; Jack White Loves Detroit
Barack Obama professed his love for Wilco last weekend, reassuring Jeff Tweedy that he indeed does have some Wilco on his iPod. Tweedy was in attendance at an Obama fundraiser at Park West in Chicago when the candidate decided to clear up some uncertainty over his taste in tunes (apparently Obama had earlier left his Chicago brethren off the list when describing what's on his iPod). Benefit shows and political events notwithstanding, the Wilco tour continues next week in Alaska before moving south for Lollapalooza, the Virgin Mobile Fest and a bunch of other U.S. dates.
If Obama loves Wilco, then Jack White really loves Detroit. The Raconteurs and White Stripes frontman recently penned a poem in honor of his hometown, hoping to mend fences after some recent comments that were taken as a dis to the Motor City. No word yet on a musical version - could this become White's answer to Ryan Adams' New York, New York?
