The WNEW Interview: Andrew Bird at Mile High Festival
Last year a friend of mine handed me Andrew Bird’s Armchair Apocrypha album. The second the first song started I got goosebumps – the blended elegance of violin, guitar, glockenspiel, and his whistling was definitely something I’d never heard before. I immediately checked his tour schedule and saw that he was coming to the Beacon Theater here in New York City and got tickets. His show was amazing – not in a dance-your-face-off-rip-rockin-crazy-time, but in a wow-this-is-beautiful-music-let-me-just-sit-right-down-and-absorb-it type of way. I got to spend some time with Andrew at the Mile High Festival. He’s ready to send some new mesmerizing music our way so listen up:
I’ve gotten to see Andrew a few times and every time he plays a song it never quite sounds the same – it seems that no song of his is ever really finished – it just keeps evolving...
Here’s my favorite song from Andrew – Fake Palindromes, Live at Bonnaroo 2006. Dig it:
The recording process for this new album was a little different for Andrew, so he dropped some knowledge on me about the way he crafts his music AND that he’s going to be putting out an instrumental record to go with the new album, dropping another live album and DVD on us soon.
Andrew’s got a few tour dates posted, and I’m sure that there’s more to come with a new album on the way. Go to http://www.andrewbird.net/ for more info, see some videos, and get some free downloads from his A/V section. To check out some of his live stuff, go get his Fingerlings albums – you won’t be disappointed.

OK, I knew he was working on a new album and had heard rumors about an instrumental one, but he'll be releasing them together?! AND giving us a live album and a DVD? The month(s) of those releases can't come soon enough. Andrew Bird is the coolest of the cool!
