Comedy Takeover: Stella Sits Down For the WNEW Interview
Click play to hear the full, uninterrupted Stella interview
Let me start off my saying that I was a HUGE fan of MTV’s The State. That show burst onto the scene when I was in college and I was hooked on it. Saturday Night Live didn’t speak to me, and while Monty Python was brilliant, you were often reminded that they were another generations’ comedians. The State, however, were comedians for my generation – and I watched every episode and was truly saddened when the show went off the air. As the members of The State went their separate ways and did different shows and movie projects, some banded together in cliques and did other projects. For more than 10 years now, Stella has one of those projects. Consisting of Michael Ian-Black, Michael Showalter, and David Wain, Stella has been touring and doing shows filled with their own version of stand-up, videos, and other oddities that got them a short TV run on Comedy Central as they guys explain. Listen Up:
Now the guys have always been extremely experimental with everything that they do. It’s safe to say that there’s no way to predict what they will do next. I’ve seen skits where they’ve thrown dogs out of windows, humped people who were dead to try to bring them back to life, and even paid a rather sexy visit to Santa Claus and (more importantly) Mrs. Claus. But that skit almost didn’t make it as some ideas are just too way out there. . . or are they? You gotta hear this:
I was truly honored to sit and talk with guys about their Stella show which is on tour right now and will taking over the Nokia Theatre here in New York City on December 9th & 10th. If you want to win tickets to the shows click here. Now, if you were a big fan of The State, you may be wondering about a reunion show or movie or something coming from the guys as they reach their 20th anniversary. . .
The real State celebration will be held in San Francisco on January 24th – keep your eyes glued to http://www.the-state.com/ for more info about that.
