This Week in Rock History: Two Minutes
Rock music has a robust history, so every Wednesday, J.A. Bartlett of the Hits Just Keep On Comin' talks about the biggest and most intriguing moments from years past...
This week in 2003, Pete Townshend was arrested on a number of charges including possession of child pornography. Charges were later dropped after Townshend admitted to accessing a certain child-porn website. Although he claimed he had accessed the site for research purposes only, he agreed to be placed on a sex-offender registry. In 2007, an investigative reporter determined that Townshend probably confessed to something he hadn't done.
This week in 1984, Bette Midler filmed a video for her cover of the Rolling Stones' Beast of Burden at the Peppermint Lounge in New York City. Special guest star: Mick Jagger.
This week in 1978, the Sex Pistols imploded after concluding a controversy-packed American tour at Winterland in San Francisco. At show's end, Johnny Rotten asked the audience, "Ever got the feeling you've been cheated?" The band officially split days later.
This week in 1969, Dave Grohl was born in Ohio. In 1990, after the breakup of the Washington, D.C.-based group Scream, he auditioned for Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic and was invited to join Nirvana. Cobain and Novoselic had already laid down some tracks with other drummers for the album that would become Nevermind, but "we knew in two minutes that he was the right drummer."
