Studio Session: Derek Trucks Band Preview New Album "Already Free" Live
He's the favorite son of the Allman Brothers Band, the crown prince of slide guitar. He's dueled on stage with everyone from wife Susan Tedeschi to Warren Haynes to Eric Clapton, and been named one of Rolling Stone's Top 100 Guitarists ever. And incredibly, he's nearing the 15-year mark as leader of his own Derek Trucks Band - all at the tender age of 29.
Already Free, the third studio album from DTB, is set to elevate the Trucks from jam rock prodigy to mainstream rock powerhouse. The songs are fresh and soulful, with lead singer Mike Mattison's vocals richly layered over the whine of Trucks' slide guitar licks.
Derek Trucks and the guys paid a visit to our buddy Cerphe at WTGB-FM in Washington, D.C. and played two songs from the new album just for us. Enjoy these prime cuts, and get out there and buy Already Free (Amazon, iTunes).

Here's what Derek had to say to Cerphe back in December, as he and the band were getting ready to play at Warren Haynes' annual Christmas Jam. Derek looks ahead to 2009 and explains how his other band, the Allman Brothers, are set for a big 40th anniversary tour and another exciting March run of shows at New York's Beacon Theater. He also tells Cerphe about life on the road, and how he and his wife had to form a band just to spend time with each other and their kids. It's a pretty intimate look into the life of a man already very accomplished in life, and poised to reach even greater heights with Already Free.
