Video Classics: 'Here, There and Everywhere' - The Beatles
To honor WNEW's legendary Firecracker 500, every day we are highlighting the music that populated the 1991 and 1996 lists, with classic videos, live performances and little-known facts about the songs and how they came to be...
Much has been made of the rivalry (on the charts, not personally) between the Beatles and the Beach Boys, including here on WNEW.com. Many note the Beatles-influenced sound in Beach Boys hits like Good Vibrations. But listen to the Beatles' Here, There, and Everywhere and see if you feel like the influences shared between the bands were a two-way street ...
If you still don't think there's any resemblance, then Paul McCartney didn't quite succeed in the sound he was going for, because McCartney himself admitted in his 1989 radio series McCartney on McCartney that the backing vocals for the song were meant to have a Beach Boys sound.
Still, most of the song is classic Beatles, and not only that, arguably one of the best tunes in their catalog. McCartney has called the song one of his favorite of the band's songs, as has Beatles' produces George Martin. Even John Lennon, who could be famously stingy with his praise of McCartney after the band's breakup admitted in his 1972 Rolling Stone interview that it was one of his favorite tracks.
Here, There and Everywhere appeared as Track 5 on the Beatles' 1966 album, Revolver. It comes in at spot #252 on the 1991 Firecracker 500.

Lennon loved" Here There and Everywhere" so fully that he used a similar chord progression for his own hit "Woman".
